Linda C. Bryant HOPE Scholarship FAQs

Who is this Award for?

This fund will be for a Bexar County high school senior or a college student that has had a family member diagnosed with cancer. This should be a relative of close relation: parent, grandparent, sibling, guardian, or aunt, and uncles.

What are the qualifications?

  • Students must have a 2.5 G.P.A. at the time of application
  • No specific field of study
  • Must plan to enroll full time into an institution of higher education for the 2019-2020 school year
  • Must agree to volunteer at the Summer Putt Away Cancer Foundation event as a condition of receiving scholarship, if selected.

What is the eligibility criteria?

  • Students must have 3 letters of recommendation; peer letter + teacher, clergy, counselor, coach or a significant adult 
  • Students must have a minimum of 20 community service hours (more points awarded for more hours)
  • Students must demonstrate a positive example on social media

How can I apply?

  • Round 1:  Create a video about your future plans in life and how the scholarship will add to your success. (No length requirement)
  • Round 2: if you have been selected then you will send a essay to HopeAwards@puttawaycancer.com.
    • TOPIC: Describe how you family was affected by cancer. Who was diagnosed with cancer? What were your reactions? Did it cause any financial or emotional struggle? How were they overcome? What is your outlook on Cancer today?
